Students discover the life of words, of ideas, of stories, of the imagination via the imagination of the brilliant writers they read.
Students learn how to read more deeply and more insightfully, how to think critically and analyze information with discernment, and how to express their own ideas clearly and eloquently. But that is not all: they learn why developing these skills is essential both for their own and for our society’s future in our changing world.
It all begins with the love of reading. With stories that enchant, intrigue, move, delight, and inspire, this class seeks to cultivate a love of reading that will last and sustain students for a lifetime. Students will enter into other worlds, where their curiosity will be piqued, their perspectives broadened, their comprehension expanded, their empathy unbound.
Students will develop excellent reading comprehension and communication skills. They will gain a better understanding of grammar and will develop a richer vocabulary. They will explore different literary genres, will understand narrative structure, and will learn how to identify, interpret, and employ literary devices.
