Learning English opens up the world.
Here students discover the world of the English Language with excitement, inquisitiveness, whimsy, and wonder.
Having a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in English Literature from Canada, my approach to English is rooted in both a genuine fascination with English and a comprehensive and profound knowledge of the language.
My experience teaching English ranges far and wide: I have taught English as a foreign language to young kids as well as English phonics and literacy; I have taught children and teenagers in school classrooms as well as in small groups and individual lessons; I have taught adults in language schools and as a teaching assistant at universities; I have taught students beginning to discover English for the very first time and advanced students looking to perfect their communication skills; and I have taught students from all around the world, coming to English from many different language backgrounds.
My experience is reflected in my classes, which are designed to best support the needs and interests of each of my students, with creativity and innovation. Students learn through a variety of immersive activities, lessons that guide them in their growing understanding of the language, practice exercises that challenge and sharpen their skills, songs and stories that engage and inspire their interest, and for all—whether playful young children or serious adults—games that teach through laughter and delight.
Through the classes, students develop vital communication skills and the confidence to use them. Even my shyest students gain the self-assurance and enthusiasm to express themselves eloquently both orally and in writing—and it is my priority to ensure that process is fun, lighthearted, and always upheld by a good sense of humour.
Likewise, the English classes foster students’ listening and reading comprehension abilities with increasing complexity and depth. Students cultivate the ability to not only understand what they hear and read, but also to think critically and insightfully about the information presented.
