Why Take Portuguese as a Foreign Language?

Did you move to Portugal and now you want—as all of us who dare leave all we knew behind and venture out into the world want—to find your place in a new country? Knowing the language can completely transform the experience of being in a country into that of belonging here. Learning Portuguese gives you more than the ability to communicate; it gives you the ability to understand, to connect, to really live in Portugal.

Being able to understand both the nuances of the Portuguese language, which I have spoken all my life, and the outsider’s perspective of the country, having moved to Portugal as an adult, I know exactly how to bridge the two.

Whether you are looking for play-based learning for young kids, literacy lessons for children learning to read in Portuguese, dynamic classes for children and teenagers, or structured yet fun lessons for adults, here you will find classes that are engaging and effective.

Through games (yes, even for adults, who I have found sometimes are the ones who appreciate games the most!), songs, stories, role-playing activities, and various exercises alongside grammar and vocabularly lessons, students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Portuguese and develop their understanding of the language the culture.

• Children

• Teens (ages 13 - 18)

  • A1 level class, Tuesdays 7 - 8 pm, €16 per individual class or €60 per month.

• Adults

  • There are adult classes for various levels. To know more, please contact scope.for.imagination.pt@gmail.com or submit the registration form below.

• If you do not see a class time or age group you’re looking for, please contact us. We often create new small groups based on student scheduling needs.

Tuition

Tuition for classes is:

• Classes are once a week, one hour per session: small group classes are €16 per class or €60 per month; individual lessons are €25 per class.

• Rates are prorated if there is a month with fewer than 3 class sessions due to holidays or class cancellation.

• Rates are not discounted if a student is not able to attend for personal reasons.

• Family discount: 5% discount is offered for the second (or more) student from the same family (siblings / parents).

• Multiple classes per week discount: Students enrolled in more than one class per week receive a 5% discount on the second (or more) weekly class.

• What age should the student be?

  • We offer Portuguese classes for young children, children, teens, and adults.

  • Small groups and private lessons are held in house near Jardim de Arca d’Água or online.

• When do class series begin?

  • Although most students participate in classes for the entire school year, students can begin or end at any time of the year based on their needs. Classes tuition is paid on a monthly basis.

• How often are classes?

  • Small group classes are held once a week, but students are welcome to register for additional lessons for a more intensive language learning approach.
